Testosterone Enanthate EP/JP/USP
Testosterone enanthate is a prescription androgen and anabolic steroid medication used primarily for testosterone replacement therapy (TRT) in men with hypogonadism. It is administered via intramuscular or subcutaneous injection and works as a long-acting prodrug of the naturally occurring male sex hormone, testosterone.
Administration and Dosage
Testosterone enanthate is typically an oil-based solution administered by deep intramuscular injection into the gluteal muscle every 2 to 4 weeks.
A self-administered, once-weekly subcutaneous (under the skin) auto-injector formulation called Xyosted is also available in the US for specific hypogonadism cases.
Dosage varies widely (e.g., 50 to 400 mg every 2-4 weeks) and is determined by a doctor based on the patient’s condition, age, sex, and response to treatment, with regular blood tests to monitor hormone levels and other health markers.
Common Acne, pain at injection site, headache, mood swings, weight gain, increased or decreased libido, increased red blood cell count (polycythemia).
Important Precautions
Medical Supervision is Essential: The drug should only be used under the supervision of a healthcare professional.
Contraindications: It is contraindicated in men with breast or prostate cancer, and in women who are or may become pregnant.
Monitoring: Regular monitoring of blood pressure, cholesterol levels, liver function, and prostate-specific antigen (PSA) levels is necessary during treatment.
Drug Interactions: It can interact with oral anticoagulants (blood thinners), insulin/antidiabetic drugs, and corticosteroids, requiring close monitoring and possible dose adjustments.
