Riboflavin & Dextran Sterile Solution is an ophthalmic formulation primarily used in corneal collagen cross-linking (CXL) procedures to strengthen and stabilize the cornea in conditions like keratoconus and corneal ectasia.
Composition & Mechanism of Action:Riboflavin (Vitamin B2) – Acts as a photosensitizer, enhancing the cross-linking effect when exposed to ultraviolet-A (UVA) light, thereby strengthening the corneal structure.Dextran – A viscoelastic agent that helps maintain corneal hydration during the procedure and improves solution penetration.Indications:Keratoconus (progressive corneal thinning and bulging)Corneal ectasia (post-refractive surgery weakening)Corneal strengthening therapy (CXL procedure)
